Crawl space Insulation
High humidity in a crawl space can cause moisture to condense on the crawl space insulation under the home. With enough weight, the insulation will droop and eventually fall, creating a problem in your crawl space.
Why do I need to insulate under my home?
Insulating under your home can help reduce energy costs and improve the comfort of your home.
Crawl space Insulation works by preventing heat from escaping from your home in the winter and from entering your home in the summer.
What is R-value?
R-value is a measure of how well insulation resists heat flow. The higher the R-value, the better the insulation’s ability to resist heat flow.
R-value is measured in units of “per inch.” For example, an R-13 insulation batt has an R-value of 13 per inch. This means it will resist heat flow 13 times better than an inch of air.

What types of insulation does Dry Otter install?
Dry Otterinstalls two different types of crawl space insulation.
Traditional Fiberglass Insulation in the subfloor:
- This type of insulation will last anywhere from 2-5 years to 15-20 years if it’s a vented crawlspace, depending on conditions.
- If this type is installed, it is secured between the floor joists and held up with thin metal rods. It should have an R-value of 19.
- It is important to note that if Fiberglass insulation is installed in a vented crawlspace, it can be problematic because it holds moisture. Still, with a proper encapsulation system, it should be fine.
Wall Foam Board Insulation:
- The walls can be installed with insulation in an encapsulated crawlspace. Dry Otter can install a rigid foam board on the interior crawlspace walls with an R-value of 10 to satisfy the insulation requirement.
- This provides an optimal solution with clear access to the subfloor if needed. This option is best because it is on the building envelope.
- It is important to note that if Fiberglass insulation is installed in a vented crawlspace, it can be problematic because it holds moisture. Still, with a proper encapsulation system, it should be fine.

Roy Fukata2025-02-27Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. This is my second job call from Dry Otter, I had an enclosed extension built over our basement entrance, being an old home with poor grade design, water leakage was rampant. On phase 1, I had the whole works done inside basement, crawl space, drainage, dehumidifier, sump-pump and now for phase 2, I have the tract system put in place. Although it hasn't rained after the tract system placed, I have confidence that my water leakages will be solved. Julie Edwards2025-02-24Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We had a great experience with Dry Otter of Denver installing a basement drainage system and sump pumps. I was able to work from home while the crew worked. Efficient crew an finished in one day.
