What is a French drain?
A French drain consists of a ditch or channel dug around the crawlspace’s inside perimeter with a pitch or slope with a perforated pipe and gravel on top.

How is a French drain installed in a crawl space?
- A trench is dug along the interior perimeter walls of the crawlspace. It should be sloped so water will drain towards the designated exit.
- A perforated pipe is inserted into the trench.
- The pipe is then covered with gravel. This prevents the line from clogging.
- The pipe is connected to a sump pump or gravity exit.
